Forbidden Light Deck Tech – Ultra Necrozma-GX

Hello everybody, PikaPoster here, and welcome to yet another post about an overpowered card. Today we will be building one of my personal favorite decks, Ultra Necrozma-GX.

Ultra Necrozma-GX

Ultra Necrozma-GX

Ultra Necrozma-GX 190HP [A]

[P][M] Photon Geyser 20+
Discard all basic [P] Energy from this Pokémon. This attack does 80 more damage for each card you discarded in this way.

[P][M] Sky-Scorching Light-GX

Note that the GX attack should actually be named “Light that Burns the Sky”.

You can use this attack only if the total of both players’ remaining Prize cards is 6 or less. Put 6 damage counters on each of your opponent’s Pokémon.

Weakness – [Y] x2
Resistance – [NONE]
Retreat Cost – [C][C]

Strategy

If you have ever played against Ultra Necrozma, you will know that it needs a heavy amount of energy each turn to attack. This means that the best partner for him is some form of Psychic energy acceleration.

Malamar

When it comes to psychic energy acceleration, there is no card better than Malamar. With the power to get an energy back from the discard pile each turn, being a single prize stage one, and being searchable with Mysterious Treasure, it feels like this card was made to be played with Ultra Necrozma. It is definitely the best partner for him anywhere.

Lunala Prism Star

While Malamar is very consistent and lovely, sometimes you just need a massive boost all at once. That’s exactly what Lunala does. For a single energy attachment, you can take 4, yes, 4 energies from the discard pile and attach them to your Pokémon in any way you like.

Mysterious Treasure

Possibly one of the best trainers in Standard, this card is like a cheaper Ultra Ball, but only for Psychic and Dragon type Pokémon. Luckily for us, we only tend to play Psychic and Dragon types in Ultra Necrozma decks.

Beast Ring

This card is hands down amazing. Once you get to 3 or 4 prizes, you have near infinite energy attachment. Who needs Malamar when you can just pull 2 energies out of you deck by using an ITEM?

While I have played funky Metagross-GX versions of this deck before, I think I will be sticking to the classic and much more powerful Malamar variant. You can download and print the entire deck here.
